Women Who Suffer From Migraines Are More Prone To Have Depression

Women suffering from headache, in particular migraine disorder, are much more predisposed to suffer from depression disorder, feel exhausted, and have a host of other austere physical symptoms, according to a study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical study involved 1500 women who buy cymbalta online at headache clinics in five US regions. Of the woman surveyed, 116 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the people were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical trial found man with chronic headache were four times more predisposed than those with incidental headache to report symptoms of major Atypical Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also four times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among patients tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical investigation found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the people also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms could incite or be a manifestation of major Manic Depression in patients with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax online and Manic Depression should heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a prevalent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the link between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Atypical Depression complicates headache treatment and can lead to poorer results for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The medical trial was supported, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American woman suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12.000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to bettering patient care through instruction and clinical study. A neurologist is a health care provider with a wide knowladge of monitoring, treating and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and frequent sclerosis.
